Dunlop Tire Union Workers - On Strike! |
Current Motorcycle Tire Inventory
GL1800 Dunlop Elite 3 Goldwing tires are still back ordered nationwide. The Dunlop united steel workers union strike started October 5th, 2006, once current tire inventory gets depleted, there will be no further production at any of the 16 Dunlop tire manufacturing plants across North America while workers remain on strike.
Inventory is still good on Honda GL1500 Goldwing tires, but as time goes by those tires will soon be gone. Bad news to motorcycle riders when Dunlop has the largest tire market share here in the USA.
GL1500 Goldwing Riders
Dunlop Elite 3 tires for Honda GL1500 Goldwing and older models are still available for now. If you own a Honda GL1500 Goldwing or any other motrorcycle and prefer Dunlop, we suggest you buy a pair now and put them away. If you wait, current inventory of Dunlop motorcycle tires will soon run out and may not be available next year.
Dunlop Motorcycle Tires - Worlds Largest Market Share
With production figures of Dunlop motorcycle tires from the Buffalo plant alone being over 4 million per year, having all 16 plants on strike here in the US will result in a terrible shortage of Dunlop tires for both motorcycles and automotive into next year. Dunlop has enjoyed the largest Motorcycle tire market share, with the strike that could change as others step up production to fill the void.
Other Tire Brands Increasing Production Levels
With the shortage of Dunlop tires, especially Goldwing GL1800 tires, companies like Bridgestone are doing their best to keep Goldwing riders on the road next year by increasing current production levels.
Dunlop is trying to fill the gap by moving supplies from non union plants and from over 100 plants overseas. Other popular brands like Bridgestone and Avon are scrambling to fill the current and future Goldwing tire needs, as well as the opportunity to take some market share away from Dunlop in the process.

I recently needed tires and Bridgestone and Metzeler were the only tires actually available, I finally went with Bridgestones due to Gary's recommendation at Wingstuff and have to admit I like them alot. I hear the Dunlops offer more milage, but these actually feel stickier in corners and handle great overall. I waited too long before changing tires hoping Dunlops would become availabe, I'm very happy with the Bridgestones and will never use Dunlops again, Bridgestone has my business!

My 2001 Gl1800 came with a set of Bridgestone on them and they were wasted at 7500 miles. They will be the last resort for me. The front tire cupped alot faster than did my last 2 sets of Dunlop D250. Some day I will try Elite 3 if they ever come back to work.

Some might want to know that Bridgestone did a redesign on their front tire which use to be a 707. It's replacement is currently a 709, and I have to say I probably see more tires and the wear results than the average guy for obvious reasons, and there is no question about it, the new 709 has proven to be an excellent tire, if not the very best.

My 01 came with Bridgestones. I have run Dunlops for years on my 1200 to 150k my 1500 to a 100k, I now have 15k on my 01 with the original Stones. After all the articals I've read about the E3's needless to say I will not be going back to Dunlop's. Bridgestone are my choice. Mileage is acceptable and the low noise level on turns is great compared to the Dunlop's

I have a 05 GL1800. I put 12,000 miles on the stock Dunlops. It was ultimately a nail in the rear that forced me to replace them. However the tires were very worn out. I went to the Metzeler ME88's. After 15,000 miles the front tire developed a bad cup. The tires still had a reasonable amount of tread left. I figured I had about 3,000 miles left on them. I felt the Dunlops performed better then the ME88's out of the box. I just do not feel as sure footed on the ME88's for the first couple of thousand miles. But then they seem to wear in nicely and perform just fine. I was going to go back to the Dunlops for my 3rd set of tires but because of the back order I went with another set of ME88's. I am happy with them but after reading the other posts I might be willing to try a set of Bridgestones.

Hi, Dunlops are the way to go!! A excellent union made tire! My stock tires were dunlops and was able to get (21,000 Km"s) before I had to change them for new set of Dunlops!

I'm about to buy new tires for my 06 Wing and will most likely go with Bridgestones. I'm dissapointed in the stock Dunlops (although I've gotten almost 19,000 miles out of 'em). Bad cupping and noisy in the turns. I've been very careful to maintain proper pressure and there still seems to be more tread left, but the handling is suffering from the weird wear.
