Motorcycle Rider Safety
Safety is always a priority for Goldwing riders and all motorcycle riders in general. Statistics drawn from the (NCSA) National Center for Statistics and Analysis have some specific areas of concern for motorcycle riders.
Areas of Concern
The largest area of concern are riders who are un-aware of whats going on around them, riders who are too busy adjusting their gps or radio, creating a dangerous lack of reaction time. Other concerns are inattentive manner of riding, untrained riders, or those who ride impaired & riders without protective clothing. Example of what to avoid on a hot summer day is riding with shorts, sneakers and a tee shirt, those are prime examples of what not to do.
MSF's Recommendations
- Get trained properly & licensed
- Wear protective gear
- Ride unimpaired
- Ride within your limits at all times
- Be a lifelong learner
Motorcycle riding, especially Goldwing style can be the best expression of freedom on the open road that anyone will find. With that, we all have a responsabilty to ourselves, our co-riders and the other motorists we share the road with to be aware, cautious, and ride with proper clothing such as a jacket, gloves, boots and a good helmet and eye protection.
Hot Weather Riding
Even in hot weather, riding with an Mesh Jacket can offer both protection and keep you cooler by shielding you from that hot sun, yet the air flows thru the mesh material. In the colder weather people usually ride with proper clothing more often than in hot weather, read our article on Staying Cool also on this Goldwing News Blog.,. You will find it very informative and learn to ride Cooler in the heat and still stay protected!

Practically every month someone tells me of one hurt or killed on a motorcycle. I ask the same question each time. "What happened?" The answers range from,[he was] speeding, drinking, not wearing a helmet, doing wheelies, someone just pulled in front of him and he was going 80-90mph IN TOWN!! I ride in anticipation of an accident thus before it happens I am prepared to avoid it. Better safe...
