Staying Cooler Riding your Honda Goldwing in Extreme Heat |
Ice Cold Wrap Tie
OK, let's ride cooler. For as little as $3.99 you can soak these little jewels in water for 5 minutes and the water absorbing beads inside swell up and retain water like you can't believe for up to 5 or more hours. You wear these around your neck and believe it or not, because when air hits the surface of these neck ties, it creates a cooling effect even in extreme heat.
The smart way to use these Cool Ties is buy a few for both you and your Co-Rider and keep some in your trunk or saddlebag in a small cooler or zip lock bag in ice. At every stop just swap the old for the new and Wow! Ice Cold wrap is around your neck, making you feel there is relief as close as your luggage in your Goldwing. Your overall body temperature actually goes down a bit due to all the blood that circulates thru your neck, well these keep your neck cool, thus reducing your overall body temperature besides feeling cold and refreshing!
Cool Vests
Cool Vests do the same thing, except they cover your upper body and retain water on the outside only. The inside is waterproof so you dont feel wet, but when you soak these for 5 minutes in water these Cool Vests hold water like no sponge could ever think about doing. Almost a half gallon of water if you don't wring it out. They last up to 5 hours depending if you wear it ouside or inside a well vented jacket. By allowing air to pass thru to contact the outside surface of these Cool Vests, the Cooling Effect is Awesome!. Sure, buy a couple for each person and do the Ice Bag Trick again! These are available on our Wingstuff.com website for only $29.95.
Goldwing Jacket
So heres the Coolest Way to ride while wearing the above Cool Vest underneath along with the Soakable Neck Tire shown at the top. These Goldwing Jackets are Mesh Style Total Air Flow Jackets that allow air to pass thru the entire surface of the jacket. They are designed like a screen window, with tiny holes all over the material along with soft safety padding underneath for added safety. We carry the Goldwing Jacket pictured as well as a few other styles on our Wingstuff.com website. These are truly the best type of Hot Weather Riding Jackets. When you shield your body from the sun and allow Total Air Flow, you have the ultimate cooling combination. Try riding in a short sleeve shirt instead and your roasting hot as well as buring your skin.
Combine all 3 of these items together and wear in extreme heat and you will be shocked how much cooler you and your Co-Rider will be. You will probably get mad at yourself for not knowing sooner and remember all the suffering heat you dealt with last year for no reason. But, it's never too late to start riding Safer and Cooler, remember heat stroke can happen, so in addition to these great cooling product be sure stop often and drink plenty of water, not soda, water. Call us at Wingstuff.com anytime you have any questions about anything to do with riding your Gold Wing. We are here to help our fellow riders and these simple tips will keep you cooler for sure..
Remember to drink OFTEN during long rides while riding in the heat, if you are drinking when you are thirsty that means you are already into the first stages of dehydration. The trick to riding in the heat is to CONSTANTLY drink small amounts all day. It's a known fact you will stay cooler and prevent your body from ever getting into the first stages of dehydration

The cool tie is about the best $4.00 investment I ever made. I'll be picking up a cool vest this week. After riding through Death Valley, Nevada, and southern Utah; I'll never be without them again.

I used the cool tie many, many times this past summer in extreme heat and was amazed at how well it worked. I never leave home without one.

Besides wearing my helmet, I always ride with my Goldwing mesh jacket. It is great in hot weather, besides providing safety if you ever have the unfortunate occasion of going down. I also have Baker Windwings that help bring air toward the rider when the windwings are open. Also, a beverage container mounted to the handlebars helps to keep you hydrated while you are riding. Some riders don't like the confined feeling of a full-face helmet, but I find that it is cooler than an open-face helmet in hot weather. Equipped with a smoked faceshield, it keeps the sun and wind off your face. When you see pictures of people riding camels in the desert, every portion of their body is covered from the sun.
